Are Several Smaller Meals Better for Weight Loss?

Many of us grew up eating our meals at more or less scheduled times. Whenever possible, at least one of those meals would include the entire family.

A large sometimes lengthy meal creates a chance for the family or extended family to socialize and bond. It also creates an opportunity for parents to assert some control over what their children are eating.

More modern dietary suggestions recommend several small meals rather than a few large ones. If the overall caloric intake is the same, why would this make a difference?

Blood sugar levels change even during slumber. It goes up after food digestion, but goes down after blood sugar digestion. That is when effects such as hunger, irritablility and headaches may begin.

It is suggested that smaller meals throughout the day stabilizes blood sugar and puts metabolism at an optimal level. The level of energy one has would then remain high making…

Can Alcohol Wreck my Weight Loss Plans?

In addition to the great responses I’ve received regarding the Weight Loss Breeze Program, many have inquired about how alcohol plays into the ability or inability to lose weight.

Many diets include an overall reduction in calories. Alcohol though, can work against weight loss for a number of reasons.

The element of “empty calories” factors in. Alcohol has about 7 calories per gram or about 100 calories in a small wine glass and 200 calories per beer. This does not include the sugars from other added drinks such as soda or mixers.

Replacing other calories with those in alcohol is often attempted. Long term however, this does not tend to be a success.

The metabolism is slowed with alcohol in addition to the added calories. Calories from alcohol are not burned nearly as quickly as the same amount of calories as say a bran muffin.

The ability to burn fat is reduced when introducing…

While recently dining out with some good friends, I noticed that “Jane” was not drinking her usual white wine. She was, in fact, drinking red wine. This would not be unusual except for the fact that Jane has complained more than once that she doesn’t like the taste of red wine.

Jane told me that she’d recently read that drinking red wine is beneficial to one’s health, specifically, the heart.

I was not surprised by this information. I’ve known for years that there has been proven health benefits to drinking red wine in moderation. This means one glass per day for women and two for men.

Studies involving Mediterranean countries showed that even though those in the study ate diets high in fat, they tended to have low LDL (bad) cholesterol, and high levels of HDL (good) cholesterol. In addition, they reported lower blood pressure. The common link in the…

Let me start by telling you about lysi. In Iceland where I grew up, this is what I had to drink. It is the fat from the liver of fish. Fortunately, today it is not necessary to drink this to get the benefit.

All I knew is that it was somehow beneficial to me and my health. As an adult, I developed an insatiable curiosity about natural health remedies. So, in addition to my other research, I decided to research the benefits of the fish fat.

Omega Fatty Acids are considered essential but polyunsaturated. So, the body needs them, but cannot produce them. We have to get them in the form of an ingestable.

The best place to get this is in fish such as salmon, tuna or sardines. But, because of the mercury content and other toxins, this needs to be in limited quantities. Two servings per week at most.

Other…
