For thousands of years, the Chinese have used green tea as something of a miracle cure for their ailments.
Many studies have been conducted worldwide that show the positive health benefits of green tea. In 1994, the Journal of National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study that stated that one of the health benefits of drinking green tea is that it has possibly reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by up to 60%.
The presence of catechin polyphenols, particularly EGCG is the primary reason why green tea has such great health benefits. EGCG is a powerful antioxidant that can inhibit the growth of cancer cells and may even be able to destroy them without harming healthy cells.
