Does acai berry really work?
May 13, 2009 Filed under Featured
The acai berry is small and it’s purple, and it grows wild in the tropical forests of the Amazon. Brazilians have been aware of the advantages of acai for a long time, such as lowered blood pressure, and heightened energy. There are a few other benefits too. Some even believe it can increase the sex drive!
There isn’t really another fruit known to mankind that has the antioxidant content boasted by the acai berry. Antioxidants work to negate the damage done to the body by free radicals. Other purple berries, such as blueberries, are also excellent sources of these potent antioxidants, but acai has the most of them all.
The rind of an acai berry has a potent chemical known as an anthocyanin. These are extremely effective antioxidants, and they naturally occur in other things like red wine and red grapes. Acai fruit is packed with essential fatty acids, fiber, plant sterols and polyphenols.
If your cholesterol is an issue, the plant sterols found in acai can help lower it. While there’s no food that will magically make you better, adding acai to your diet can make you healthier.
There are many ways to work acai into your diet, and surely there’s one that suits your tastes. Drink acai juice, either straight or mixed into a glass of fruit juice (cranberry is excellent), or iced tea. If you don’t like that idea, you can take an acai supplement in capsule form, or eat a delicious energy bar loaded with acai extract.
A lot of studies have shown the numerous health benefits of acai fruit. In 2006, the University of Florida did a study that proved the acai berry’s cancer-fighting power. In the tests, human cancer cells were given acai extract, and they died soon after. A lot more promising research is being done in this field, and discoveries are being made every day.
Acai has enjoyed its share of media exposure lately. For example, the renowned Dr. Oz promoted it heavily on an episode of Oprah Winfrey’s talk show. If you’d like to experience acai’s benefits for yourself, supplements are readily available in grocery stores, health food shops, and numerous online outlets. No matter how you take it, acai’s benefits are too powerful to be ignored.
