Dogs and Diabetes

How can you determine if your dog could potentially have diabetes? In the vast majority of cases, it is not very likely for younger dogs to contract diabetes, but if your pet is more than 4 years of age and is exhibiting other symptoms, then the potential for diabetes could be a real one. Diabetes in dogs is quite a bit more common in females. Many of a dog’s symptoms are a lot like those of diabetes in humans.

Symptoms for Dogs with Diabetes

* Canine diabetes can begin with an out of shape, overweight dog. This is not always true though; in some breeds it can be in the gene pool. Being obese can be a dangerous sign though.

* Diabetes typically occurs in dogs around the ages of 7 to 9.

* With larger dogs there is more of a possibility to contract diabetes than there is with a littler breed.

* Watch for unending thirst. If this occurs, do not try to limit your dog’s water intake. This is important because your dog will require all the water it wants to help keep from getting dehydrated.

* Drinking so much means he/she will need to use the bathroom more often. Your dog, the one you’ve worked so hard to house train so well could start having accidents more often on your carpet. Why? They are not used to transporting so much water in their bladder. Much like the chicken and the egg, and the debate of which arrived first, the need for water or the need to urinate has been debated both ways.

* Your dog may begin losing weight quickly and unusually, even though she is eating more and could begin moving slowly and showing signs of being worn out, acting extremely tired.

* Your dog may begin losing their eyesight, having issues seeing.

Preventing your dog from getting diabetes:

1. If you see your dog beginning to gain weight, or if they are already overweight, lower the number of carbohydrates they consume. Yes, much like humans, a large number of carbohydrates add to to weight gain, which adds to the likelihood of diabetes. Many common dog foods have ingredients that include as much as 98% carbohydrates. Read the food labels and learn as much information as you can about your dog breed to make sure that he is getting the correct amount of nutrients. Making the switch to a healthier dog food can be an enormous step towards the right direction.

2. Get lots of exercise! A lot of dogs get diabetes that could be completely avoided if they had kept exercising and not gotten out of shape. This is where you and your family can pitch in, as the dog owners. If your dog stays sedentary and out of shape, he can contract diabetes even if he is not a breed that is typically at risk.

As of this writing there is not a cure for diabetes. Work together with your vet to ensure that your dog gets the correct treatment and the correct medication to continue to have a happy life. Sometimes diabetes will remain all the way through your dog’s life span. To prevent diabetes symptoms in your dog, do your best to keep your dog’s weight appropriate, get him adequate exercise, and give the dog its medication on a regular basis along with enough water.

Food ingredients and additives can cause some people real problems. Those with food allergies or sensitivities can suffer serious health consequences. Less common but even more serious are those who suffer critical diseases like celiac disease may even face life threatening circumstances. One of the most common problems components is gluten which comes from grassy plants .

You may be one of the millions who suffer from allergies to wheat . Your reaction may be like my wife who suffers immediate headaches and rashes. Your reactions may be more or less problematic .

Eliminate wheat from your meal plan and enjoy a healthier happier you. You may even need to go the second mile and eliminate gluten too. Is it hard to do? Not as hard as you might think. Soon you will be eating with confidence.

The key to avoiding these components is to know what you are eating. Always check the components and look for warning labels as well as consumer labels like “gluten free”. Remember, your food may contain grains as the major components or they may be used as additives to stabilize or thicken foods. Also, remember to check ingredients on medicines, vitamins, food supplements, cosmetics, and beverages.

Often the components labels use unexpected or misleading phrases like “vegetable starch” or “glucose syrup” to mask the real elements . Be alert and avoid anything you do not understand.

Find your safe foods, and avoid problem foods and ingredients. Experiment until you have confidence. Trade healthy flours like spelt, rice, or maize for other flours.

A second level of diligence may be required from time to time. Sometimes manufacturers fail to list gluten or grass like foods because they consider it to be incidental. During food production contamination can occur. If a manufacturer makes products without a significant portion of the ingredient, they may dust trays, or otherwise expose the food to the elements in question. Be sure to look for labels that state “processed gluten free”.

Track the foods you eat. Keep a food diary. List brands and items used. If you have a reaction, review your journal. Identify suspect foods and eliminate them from your diet. Replace problem items with trusted items.

If you live in a household where people eat differently, take precautions against cross contamination. For example, I am allergic to dairy and tomatoes and my wife is allergic to wheat and sugar. Often we eat the same, but often we eat differently. You can avoid cross contamination by storing foods apart from each other. Clean between uses on baking implements. You might even try separate toasters.

If possible, here is your best solution. Set up your home as a wheat free or gluten free zone. These troublesome elements may not do severe damage to everyone, but they are not essential for life. With a little practice you will find very tasty substitutes for great sauces, gravies, soups, casseroles. Substitute maize or rice flour or even potatoes.

What you eat matters. The ingredients can cause you harm or give you the nutrition you need. It is vital that you learn what harms you and avoid it. Know what you eat. Track it. Replace the bad with the good. Then enjoy great taste, great health, and great energy.

Enjoy Healthy Eating With Gluten Free Recipes

Getting away from wheat products can seem like a chore, considering how many foods contain wheat. They range from bread and wraps to cereals and anything with a thickener or a coating. While many companies continue to emerge offering gluten free foods, finding your own gluten free recipes can be a very freeing option, allowing parents to involve gluten sensitive kids in the kitchen.

They will not feature barley, spelt or kamut either. All of these contain gluten, but they would be safe for people avoiding just wheat. When baking or cooking for sensitive individuals, check all ingredients. Stock cupboards with gluten free baking powder, and watch out for baking mixes.

Bread and muffin recipes will want something to take the place of gluten, the main role of which is to keep the finished product from crumbling. Suggested ingredients include xanthum gum, guar gum and pre-gel starch. All of these can be found at health food and specialty stores, although as supermarkets become increasingly aware of the demand for gluten-free baking products, they will sometimes carry such things or will order them in.

Your choice of safe flours is actually quite long. Amaranth, tapioca and potato are just some. Compare them with all-purpose flour and see the difference. Regular wheat flour has a lighter, less grainy texture than rice flour for example.

Though experimentation will lead consumers to new ways of lightening recipes, many will still come out heavier than their traditional counterparts. Texture will differ also because in some cases the flour has a grainier quality. Mix flours together and see what works for you.

Certain tricks help give rise to bread products. One of these is especially popular with kids. Make sure you use a large bowl when combining yogurt with baking powder. The acid in yogurt reacts with baking powder, causing the mixture to bubble and rise. After a few minutes, transfer this brew to your muffins and fold in gently to see a tall, light result. In place of yogurt consumers can try using sour cream, buttermilk or soured milk in the same way.

For thickening a gravy or sauce, stock regular items such as cornstarch or tapioca starch. Use these safely as before. When creating a custard or thick filling in baking, make sure products such as custard or pudding powder do not contain thickeners with gluten in them. If you can get rid of all wheat from the kitchen, all the better. If not, at least dedicate a cupboard and label it up for safety.

Many gluten free recipes can end up tasting awful as I’m sure you’ll be aware if you have a gluten or yeast intolerance. Allergydiet.co.uk provide a variety of gluten free recipes, including gluten free bread recipes that have become extremely popular, purely on the strength of the recipes themselves.

Stop Snoring Helpful Tips and Cures

A greater part of the population suffer from snoring. This ailment may stem from something as ordinary like a simple cold, lack of rest and sleep, too much stress, too much alcohol, or from something more serious and complicated like heart problems. What remedies and cures you can take depends on these factors, and your doctor will be able to advise you on what snoring remedies are best for you.

Many snorers have poor eating habits, sleeping habits, lack exercise, and are obese. Obese people fall into all the categories because they over eat, over sleep, and are not in the habit of exercising regularly. They snore because the airway passages get blocked by fatty tissue. The only way to correct this is by dieting and exercising.

Drinking makes some people snore. Alcohol acts as a muscle relaxant and this tends to makes the throat muscles to relax more than normally it should and rub against the uvula and palate. This rubbing action causes the snoring and the irritatingly loud sound it makes. To avoid this, you should finish up your drinking session at least 4 hours before retiring. Other causes are the medicines you take like sleeping pills and antihistamines.

Some or many people are most likely to snore due to the lying on their backs when asleep. Shifting positions to either your left or right side may help stop or alleviate snoring. One way of keeping a side position while asleep is to place a barrier, like a large pillow behind you, to keep your body from shifting. You may try putting a tennis ball inside a sock and placing it behind you to keep you from lying face up.

Other more radical treatments include the use of oral mouthpieces and nose plugs for those whose options are getting thin. The mouthpieces are worn inside the mouth during sleep. They keep the jaws in the correct position while also keeping the tongue from moving to the back part of the throat and blocking the airway passage. Nose plugs also are designed to keep the airway passages open and is useful if you have a clogged nose, . There are also throat sprays that lubricate the uvula and throat that minimize friction, thus lessening snoring. You might try specially designed pillows made from special materials that keep the alignment of the head with the spine and help keep the airway as straight as possible.

Consult with your doctor as soon as possible if you suffer from chronic snoring due to the above reasons for a quick remedy and a cure. It also helps your cause by doing research online to view more helpful tips and topics.
