Pros and Cons of the Prune Juice Diet

An increasing number of people call on their doctors in search of information on a trendy new phenomenon called the prune juice diet. People are looking for the best way to shed extra weight and feel more healthy and energetic. They have heard about the abundance of benefits that a juice fast delivers. However, a prune juice fast is very different from a juice fast. It is important to understand the side effects that could come from such a laxative diet.
I’m not the only one, many doctors also understand that a juice fasting diet is one of the best ways to increase energy. Furthermore, it is a great way to melt away the fat and end up with a body that functions perfectly. Not only that, but it’s by far the quickest way that one can achieve this kinda of radiance. That said, it is highly recommended that people do not use prune juice to fast. In fact, I strongly advise against this practice. I’ll tell you why.
Small amounts of this juice can certainly benefit ones health as the fruit is packed with nutrients. However, prune juice is a natural laxative. It is recommended that one rather prevents the onset of constipation before it gets to a point where laxatives are required.
Laxatives are known to stimulate the process of peristalsis. Peristalsis is a series of contractions that take place in the digestive tract. When food is present, the contractions are responsible for moving the waste through so that it is excreted from the body. Fasting on prune juice, however, would hinder this process, as there would be no waste that would need to be eliminated. This would make the contractions very painful and they could even become quite dangerous. Juice fasts, however, are great for purposes of energizing the digestive tract. It is also very good for cleaning the body both internally and externally. This makes a juice fast the perfect option for rapidly shedding pounds and regaining your inner glow of vitality.
I always advise my clients to consume a wide variety of rainbow colors and to eat colorful meals. Colorful fruits and vegetables are packed with nutrients and enzymes. Fruit Juice Diet - Will it Work For You?

Almost everyone I coach on the phone or in my office asks me about going on a fruit juice diet. They’re eager to know the shortest route between them and their weight loss goals, and they’ve heard about the dramatic results that juice fasting can provide. Year after year of results convinces me that juice fasting is by far the most beneficial thing anyone can do to supercharge their health and well being. Not to mention it’s the absolute fastest road to weight loss and the body of your dreams. But fasting on fruit alone or embarking upon and all fruit juice diet may prove to be a bit problematic. Read on.
The truth is, while their health benefits are plentiful, fruit (unlike vegetables) contains a large amount of natural sugars and is best when eaten whole with fibers intact. The reason a juice fast so powerful is because when you juice a fruit or vegetable, you have removed of the bulk, or fiber, from the part of the plant that provides nutrition– that is the juice. You then ingest the nutritive part of the plant, the part that contains the vital nutrients your body is hungry for, and allow your body to receive the fuel it requires without having to spend all the energy necessary to break it down. This is energy your body will save for cleansing. Imagine tiny little brushes scrubbing your cells clean while flushing the fat out of your body for good.
In lieu of a fruit juice diet, I advise my clients to take in a rainbow variety of fresh juices on their fasts. This ensures all their nutrition is being taken care of for the day leaving them with maximum energy. While fruits such as apples can provide a great base for many juices, if consumed alone they spike the blood sugar which then drops shortly after leaving you with less energy than you had when you started. Obviously, this is not the effect we desire when we take on a juice fast.
If you do want to go on a juice fast then that’s great, but you do need to make sure that you add in greens such as watercress, kale, and spinach. These will be necessary when absorbing sugars into your system and preventing fluctuations in energy and blood sugar spikes.

One or two green apples
Two celery stalks
Half of a cucumber
Three handfuls of spinach or, if you would prefer, two handfuls of kale
1/2 to a whole lemon depending on your preference
