Be Healthy While Losing Weight

As of ten years ago, there were already over 108 million Americans battling obesity or who were overweight. The ranks of the overweight and obese have increased vastly since that time and the average US waistline has been steadily expanding for some time now. Obesity and the health problems which it causes are already a significant public health issue and by the year 2020, it is predicted to reach the level of a national health crisis.
One way to prevent this scenario is to make people aware of the risks of being overweight or obese.
The following are just a sampling of the diseases which being overweight disposes you to:
1. Heart disease 2. Stroke 3. Diabetes 4. Cancer 5. Arthritis 6. Hypertension
Losing extra weight and keeping it off prevents these diseases and can help treat them in people who have already developed them.
Many companies have taken advantage of the obesity epidemic by selling fad diet plans. These make plenty of money for their manufacturers, but do not provide a long term solution. Instead, they tend to rely on pills and supplements. Even when these diets do allow users to lose some weight, this type of rapid weight loss is not healthy; and gaining back the lost pounds in the dreaded yo-yo is even worse ” and that’s exactly what happens to most of the people who use these programs.
Better by far is a healthy weight loss plan which lets you lose those excess pounds and keep them off. The key is to set realistic weight loss goals instead of trying to lose it all in a matter of weeks. The following are some valuable tips for healthy weight loss:
1. Don’t starve yourself
Don’t diet! Repeat, don’t diet - this is the most important advice for healthy weight loss.
You may seem happy and feel that you are losing those unwanted flabs on your belly and thighs by skipping meals. But remember that this would not last long. Your body cannot tolerate having insufficient food to fuel the energy that you use up everyday.
If you get used to skipping one or two meals a day, your stored calories will be used up instead of the energy that should have been provided by your meals. So if you just eat one huge sandwich in one day, it will end up straight to your problem area (i.e. thighs, buttocks, hips).
2. Make breakfast a habit
You should listen to your mother. Eat a nutritious breakfast every day to get your metabolism going.
Your food intake after you wake up will be used to burn fat all day long.
3. Have small, frequent meals
Five small-serving snacks per day is better than three hearty meals. Eating more frequently, and in small servings, can prevent over-eating. This will also increase your metabolism and make calories burn faster.
4. Set a realistic weight loss goal
Keep your goals realistic. In the long run, it is virtually impossible for you to lose 40 pounds in 2 weeks. Have a mindset that you want to eat healthy to stay healthy for the rest of your life.
Set your goals and stick to your plan!
5. Get plenty of water
Water helps you burn fat and stay hydrated ” so get six to eight glasses every day.
6. Go easy on the sugar
Plan your meals around lots of fruits and vegetables, some bread, rice or pasta for that carbo fix that you need, plus lean meat and protein-rich foods. Sweets, sodas and pastries should be once-in-a-while indulgences only.
7. Watch your fat intake.
Fat is not the culprit to being overweight. You need dietary fat to keep your weight at the proper level.
There is such a thing as healthy fats. Olive, peanuts and canola oil have them. Tuna, salmon and mackerel have omega-3 fats which is good for the heart.
8. Get exercise regularly
Leave your car if you are only going a few blocks from home, take the stairs instead of the elevator, jog, cycle or skate. Use these activities and other home chores if you are too lazy to go to the gym and take exercise classes. Make sure that you do this regularly and you will not even notice that you are already shedding pounds with these mundane activities.
Whatever your weight loss goal happens to be, the way to get there is to set realistic goals which you know you can reach. When you reach a goal, it gives you the motivation to keep going.
Remember not to push yourself too hard. Don’t be afraid to take it easy for a day and pat yourself on the back after you meet that first goal; you’ve earned it. Of course, don’t wait too long - you’ll want to get back in the saddle and on your way towards the next goal.
Getting regular exercise, drinking plenty of water, eating a healthy diet and getting enough sleep will have you on your way to healthy weight loss and a whole new you!
What Is The Cost Of Liposuction
April 4, 2009 by Dr Taylor Cromish
A good estimate of liposuction cost is around $2000 - $9000 based on US prices.
So you’ve decided to have liposuction. Now come the big decisions of where to have it done, who should do it and what will it cost. For many people the cost of liposuction is the main deciding factor so lets explore the possibilities.
There has been a huge growth in medical tourism in the last 20 years. As the price of cosmetic surgery has increased in the USA and Western Europe surgeons in other countries such as Brazil, Thailand, and India have stepped in to offer cheaper prices for liposuction.
What Affects Liposuction Costs?
There are a variety of factors affecting liposuction costs. These include
1. The Plastic Surgeon ” If your surgeon is well trained and qualified he or she is likely to charge more. Each country trains their surgeons differently so do a bit of research. If they are experienced they may charge more as well.
2. Amount and place of surgery - You may just need a small area to be treated or several at the same time. This will directly affect the price. Is the surgery in the surgeons’ office, day care centre or hospital?
3. The regions to be treated ” The most frequent regions treated are the legs, abdomen and back. Each is one region and multiple regions treated cost more. Male fat is more fibrous and takes longer to treat which can increase the price.
Range Of Liposuction Prices
These are a guide only and are for surgery in the USA.
1. Abdominal Region $3100 - $8900
2. Lower Abdomen $2,000 to $6,000
3. Flanks, male $2,000 to $6,000
4. Front of Legs and Knee $1900 - $5600
5. Back $2000 - $3900
6. Inner Thighs and Knees $2,000 to $5,500
7. Lower face and neck $2100 - $5400
8. Hips and Upper Thigh $2000 - $6100
9. Butt $1900 - $5600
10. Outer Thighs $2,000 to $5,000
As you can see the cost of liposuction is not insignificant. So should you go abroad?
Liposuction Prices Abroad
In most overseas countries liposuction will be considerably cheaper than in the USA or Europe. Price, although important should not be the primary factor in your decision. Some of the other factors you must consider include the training and qualifications of your surgeon and his or her support staff, how long they will see you for before you return home and what will they do if you have problems?
Examples Of Liposuction Prices Overseas
The prices quoted are examples and your clinic or surgeon may well charge a different amount.
Bolivia $1900
Brazil $950
Hungary $1100
India $2530
Lithuania $1,400
Venezuela $2400
Thousands of people have liposuction each year and are delighted with the results. Many go abroad and are pleased with both the experience and the saving they make. As long as you have done your research, checked out the surgeon and clinic there is nothing stopping you becoming a medical tourist and decreasing the cost of liposuction.
Does Body Image Mastery Really Work?

Okay, so by coming to read this article I assume you’re at least somewhat interested in Laura Fenamore’s Body Image Mastery program, and your final question before taking ‘the leap’ is simply - does it really work?
Well, as someone who has actually been through the course, I have to say yes.
But, note that that does not mean it is right for everyone.
The first thing to keep in mind is that Body Image Mastery is VERY different from any other ‘weight loss‘ course that ever has been released.
It takes a whole new perspective on the whole business of losing weight. It’s not about dieting. It’s not about exercising. It’s not about taking pills or huge space wasting equipment that’s supposed to make you lose 20 pounds overnight.
You can eat whatever you want. And you can exercise if you want to, but you don’t have to. Sure, it really does help, but that’s not the point and that’s not at all what Laura’s course is about.
Body Image Mastery deals with weight loss from a new angle. We think that if we manage to lose weight, we will be able to love ourselves.
Body Image Mastery guides you to love yourself first. The rest comes naturally all by itself.
So does this thing work? If you ask me….yes.
If you are reading this and thinking that this way of thinking is just weird, it most likely means that this is not your cup of of tea, and you’re not quite ready for a training program like this.
But if this seems alright with you, it might very well be perfect for you, and my advice are that you at least consider it carefully.
The reason I’m so excited about Body Image Mastery is because I’ve actually lost over 50 pounds since I started the course and I’m actually HAPPY now. How about that eh?
But you decide.

Information to help you Shed Pounds Sensibly

Your health is the main concern when trying to take off those extra pounds. However, in a desperate attempt to shed weight many people use methods that are not safe. In order to lose pounds and remain healthy the weight should not come off too quickly. Rapid weight loss is unsafe and the odds of regaining it are considerable.
Many people use starvation diets to lose weight fast. This is a hard diet plan to follow as well as hazardous to your health. Your body will not receive the nutrition it needs to remain healthy resulting in energy loss, skin problems and other serious health problems.
You need to follow a reasonable diet plan that does not endanger your health. These diets are less stressful and you can still eat a nice meal. Simply eating lettuce every meal will not satisfy your food craving. It is no longer considered attractive to look as if you are starving to death; an athletic figure is the trend now. A healthy look is attractive and easy to achieve by exercising and burning calories.
Exercise is seriously underrated when it comes to losing the pounds you want to lose. Exercising will actually improve energy levels while providing the activities you need to stay in good shape. This does not mean you must spend hours at the gym.
Increase your activity by walking instead of driving when you can or using the stairs more, you may even enjoy skipping rope or doing housework while listening to music and incorporating a dance into your chores. Make out a healthy diet and exercise plan and make it as interesting as possible so you will stay with it and keep the weight off once it is lost.
Weight loss is not as hard as it is made out to be. The key is to reduce the caloric intake and get your body moving. When the energy required is more than your intake of food provides you start to burn stored fat. Thus, the optimum way of taking off those excess pounds is to choose a diet that is nutritious. This means a reduction in calories as well as burning the ones you consume by exercising.
The hardest part is getting started, as it will take some effort. If you follow a good diet plan, your body will get the nutrients it needs to remain healthy throughout your diet. Do not lose faith in your ability to lose weight, this will ensure your success.
You will see advertisements for pills or other products to make you lose weight by ridding your body of fat. These are called fat blockers or fat binders that cause the fat you consume to pass on through you body and be expelled as a waste product. It is supposed to keep the intestines from processing the fat thus keeping fat from accumulating in your body.
The intestines will not be able to process the fat because it sticks to itself. There are problems with this way of getting rid of fat, as it is not healthy or natural to have diarrhea or a nasty odor in your stools. This means of getting rid of fat is not desirable and may cause additional problems with your health.
Lose weight successfully with this guide to finding the best diet

Is there a best diet for losing weight? This is question on the lips (and the hips) of a whole nation and the magazines, the popular press and television bombard us with new or rehashed diets almost every day of the week. We can be forgiven for being a little confused. So what is the key to losing weight and what is the best diet to achieve this. All successful weight loss diets and programs share common features that we can identify and find the one most suitable for us.
Diets fall into several categories. Very popular over the past 15 - 20 years have been the low fat diets. The argument goes that a gram of at contains 10 calories of energy. A gram of protein contains 4 calories and a gram of carbohydrate also contains 4 calories. Therefore if we reduce our fat intake we are sure to lose weight. This is just bad application of logic. We cant just treat calories like beans to be counted and applied. This is because the body treats these three in different ways after digestion. But supposedly educated dieticians and nutritionists have been plugging this line for many years. It is not only wrong. It is also unhealthy.
Now a gram of fat contains 10 calories of energy, a gram of protein contains 4 calories and a gram of carbohydrate also contains 4 calories. Therefore if we reduce our fat intake we are sure to lose weight because we can see that fat is energy dense. When we study philosophy we find something called a a syllogism. So, the argrument goes, a cat has four legs and a dog has four legs. Therefore a cat is a dog! Dieticians used the same logic with fats, proteins and carbohydrates and it was equally false. Unfortunately it became so entrenched that no one dared to challenge the presupposition and educated dieticians and nutritionists have been plugging this line for many years. For dieting the whole concept is fatally flawed.
The mistake is that it assumes all calories are equal and the body treats all calories the same, but it doesn’t. Protein is used differently by the body from carbohydrates for example. Protein is digested into amino acids which are used to rebuild muscles and skin. Although each gram contains four calories, it does not contribute one gram to your overall body fat. Similarly fat has other functions such as to absorb vitamins and minerals. Excess fat is flushed out of the system via the liver and gall bladder. Too much fat may contribute to heart disease, loose bowel movements and greasy skin but not pounds on the hips. Excessive intake of carbohydrates is the dietary evil making people fat as I will explain later.
Food-combining diets that have been made popular by Hollywood stars is another category of diet. Hollywood stars can afford the luxury of finding the right foods and combining them to lose weight. The rest of us eat normal foods and have household budgets. The diet is based on the argument that different foods work in concert to produce unusual weight loss as they enhance each others effects. It is really questionable and no true dietician advocates them. I think they fall into the fad diet category but some swear by them.
Fad diets come in all shapes and sizes and we all recognize them when we see them. If it feels weird, it probably is. Let your common sense be your guide.
Finally we come to the popular low carbohydrate diets popularized by the Atkins Diet. Dr Robert Atkins worked on existing research of doctors who had studied the insulin response of the body to carbohydrate intake. Through the research he discovered that when we digest carbohydrates our blood sugar levels rise. The more quickly we digest carbohydrates, the quicker the rise in blood sugar. The body reacts to this rise in blood sugar by releasing insulin which binds with the blood sugar and converts it into glycogen to be stored in the liver. If the liver’s glycogen store is full the body stores it as adipose tissue, more commonly known as fat. High blood sugar is bad for the body so maintaining a steady blood sugar is vital for good health. Unfortunately when we eat highly processed carbohydrates such as sugar, our blood sugar levels spike and we overproduce insulin to correct the problem. Our blood sugar levels plummet and we are immediately hungry again. So we eat again and so the cycle perpetuates itself.
Atkins realized from the research that severely restricting carbohydrate intake would lead to the body going to its own store of energy, its stored fat reserves. So the Atkins Diet was born. Atkins also realized from research that high sugar levels in the bloodstream contributed to heart disease far more than fats in the diet. This was demonstrated in research many years before the fad that led to the low fat diet which was based on a flawed premise. For many people the Atkins Diet was a savior and they have taken on the diet as a long term lifestyle.
The Atkins diet is very effective from personal experience, but many dieters found the first month just too hard. The Atkins Diet is quite strict to begin with and for these people an alternative was needed to help them lose the weight without the strict self discipline the Atkins Diet required. They needed a diet that worked in the real world without the time and effort the Atkins Diet needed. The best diet should include food, exercise and a meal planner to help make life easier. It should not need us to carefully count every gram of carbohydrate and protein and fat that passes our lips. You see food, selected correctly can be our greatest ally in losing weight. Some foods rich is proteins take more energy to burn than they yield. Also proteins help build muscle which is essential for weight loss. A good weight loss program will educate as to which foods to avoid and which to include, correct portion size and eating habits.
In addition to this we need an exercise program that gets us moving and the fat burning off. Exercise is the cornerstone of any effective and successful diet. When combined with sensible eating and good advice it can put us on the road to success. The best diet programs also include a meal planner which gives you meal suggestions and prepares a shopping list for the week’s food. That way you don’t spend the day worrying about what you are going to eat that day. Obsessing about food is the poor preparation for losing weight!
So if you are looking for the best diet look at the programs that include a good balance of foods, from the different food groups and not unbalanced on their avoidance of any one group. Also look for a good exercise program included that will work for you and a male planner is a must. Good luck is just a matter of research, commitment and dedication. The more committed you are, I bet the luckier you become.

3 Reasons Why You Will Lose Weight With Wu Yi Tea
March 26, 2009 by Caitlin Ryan

Do you wish you could look as wonderful as the celebrities that strut down the red carpet every awards season? They all look so beautiful in their designer clothes and perfect figures. Well, you might not be able to buy the clothing or jewelry, but you can achieve the body you desire if you know one of their dieting secrets like I do.
The Wu Yi Tea Company offers a series of products that use this amazing tea that gives a weight loss edge. Wu Yi tea is oolong tea that is named for the Chinese Wu Yi mountain range where it grows. It has been said that tea is the ancient Chinese slimming secret. Why? How does tea help you lose weight?
It is important to increase your fat metabolism. Wu Yi (or oolong) tea contains EGCG which is a powerful catechin that can do just that. Tea will increase the rate at which fat is burned in your body which will help you lose weight faster!
In fact, when people drink tea prior to exercise, they continue to burn fat for a longer period of time after the exercise is completed. Plus, oolong tea counts as water so you will be hydrated when you exercise.
You might have a sluggish metabolism because of yo-yo dieting over the years or eating a lot of refined carbohydrates. Tea will give you a slimming edge because it will speed up your sluggish metabolism and help you develop a sleek figure.
Wu Yi tea increases energy. When you are overweight or obese, you know that you need to exercise in order to lose weight, but you may lack the energy you need to get moving and develop that celebrity body. Oolong tea may be your answer to that missing energy. Energy is imperative for keeping up with a fitness plan!
Oolong tea contains caffeine which is known to increase energy. The good news is that it also contains L-theanine which counteracts the jittery effect that caffeine produces. A lot of people find that tea is a great replacement for coffee because although all tea contains caffeine, tea also soothes and calms the mind.
This calming effect of tea is also beneficial in counteracting the stress involved with dieting. You may be an emotional eater who scarves down food when you are anxious or nervous. Tea can help prevent this because of its calming effect.
Finally, Wu Yi tea is able to block fat. We should not eat a lot of saturated or trans fats, but if you indulge occasionally, Wu Yi tea will undo some of that damage by modestly blocking fat without the ill effects of other fat blockers.
Unlike Alli (a popular fat blocker), oolong tea is gentle. Its fat blocking capabilities are not as potent as Alli, so you will not have the ill effects such as excessive bowel movements that Alli causes.
There are other secrets that celebrities have to help them achieve sexy, slim figures.
Words of Wisdom From Peoria
March 24, 2009 by Nate Rifkin
This morning I checked my email and an article caught my eye — one that had been forwarded by a member of my mailing list who lives in Peoria, Illinois. I had to laugh, even though I have never been anywhere near Peoria. The cause of my amusement was my memory of something one of my instructors from medical school used to say to one of my classmates way back when. “Bob, what will they think of this in Peoria?” Or, the alternate: “Bob, if you don’t watch out and start picking up speed, it’s quite possible you could end up with a practice in Peoria.
My instructor was a bit biased as to what cities were worth practicing in. In his mind, New York City and Boston were the only options, so Peoria certainly would have been out of the question.
I have a feeling that Bob knows that Peoria does actually have fully functional medical practices, and specialists as well.
For the first time ever, this year, the cardiologists from St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria held a Cardiology Cookout, which they are planning to hold each year from now on.
The cardiology staff members wanted to make a few points during this event: that cooking can be enjoyable and that food that tastes good does not have to be food that is unhealthy.
The event was a success, with over one hundred people attending. Each attendee was offered samples of heart-healthy foods to taste, and they given the opportunity to take home recipes that teach them how to prepare those healthy foods in their own kitchens or backyards.
To me, that idea is commendable.
The St. Francis cardiology staff had some excellent suggestions, and one in particular that I think is especially good.
People are always asking how many calories they should consume.
The way to figure that out is to multiply your weight by 15.
Say you weigh 170 pounds. You multiply that by 15, which equals 2550 calories. To maintain that weight, that’s how many calories you would consume daily.
For someone who wants to drop weight, they need to multiply their weight by 13 instead of 15. Using the 170 pound example, this totals 2210 calories. That equals a daily decrease of 340 calories. Two easy suggestions for dropping the daily calorie count: One, if you drink two sugar-filled sodas a day, make the change to plain tea, or water. This shaves off 220 calories right there. Two, try switching to mustard, instead of mayonnaise on your sandwich, and you will have pretty much taken care of the 340 calories that you are trying to take out of your daily diet. Follow those easy guidelines, and in one week you will have decreased your caloric intake by 2380, which pretty much equals a whole day of calorie consumption.
This doesn’t even take exercise into account.
Weight loss does occur without exercise, but doing both will speed up your success.
The St. Francis cardiology staff also advises taking fish oil supplements that contain omega 3 fatty acids. The best supplements are those that are made from fish that are low on the food chain, like sardines and anchovies. This way, there is less of a chance of contamination from environmental elements.
Now is something I know more than a little bit about, since I have an enteric-coated, pharmaceutical-grade essential fatty acid softgel of my own. The sofgels have the highest concentration of EPA/DHA that you can buy. The fish oil in the supplements comes from fish that live deep in the arctic waters of Norway, and are free of mercury, cholesterol, and PCBs. My softgels are exceptionally pure, meeting the high standards set both nationally and internationally.
A cardiologist from St. Francis, Kent Wise M.D. says, “We are not convinced that other supplements like vitamins E or C or folic acid actually have a positive impact on heart health.”
He goes on to say, “We are convinced that fish oil has an impact on lowering triglycerides, one of the detrimental fats found in the blood. Furthermore, some evidence has shown that fish oil can lower the risk of sudden death.
Additional advice:
Stay away from fast food (pack your own healthy lunch, instead).
Cut down on your salt consumption. This means avoiding foods like pretzels and chips and other packaged salty foods.
Eat plenty of fiber, including beans, barley, fruit and vegetables.
Whenever you can, visit your farmers’ market for fresh produce.
No matter if this advice comes from New York, Boston, or Peoria — it’s all good.
What’s The Fascination with Liquid Diets for Weight Loss
March 24, 2009 by Rita Beckensall
When it comes to food and trying to cut down on food, people struggle as they feel that they have no control over how much they eat and before they know it, hunger has ruled their better judgement and they’ve scoffed an entire fast food meal without thinking.
It can be terribly frustrating knowing what to put into your bodies, how much to put into your bodies, and when to put it in your body. These are the type of people that opt for liquid diets for their weight loss control. Whilst these kind of extreme diets do have their plus points, it is very unhealthy to stick to a diet of this kind for any sustained length of time and is highly advised against by all the professionals.
One thing to look out for with liquid diets for weight loss is that you are consuming all your essential vitamins and nutrients. Any doctor or nutritionist will tell you the same so there is no doubt that this advice must be adhered to.
Health is of paramount importance and should always come before superficial aspects of life like how much you way and what you look like when you’re naked or on the beach this summer.
Being skinny but unhealthy is certainly not the goal and you should always keep that in mind.
Crushing the Liquid Diets for Weight Loss Myths
There’s no getting away from the fact that liquid diets for weight loss are extreme diets. You get fast results as your are starving your body of carbs. Such extreme deficits of carbs for any length of time, even a few weeks, can put dire strains on your body and energy levels. So you need to take a visit to your doctors to see what they have to say.
Seriously listen to what your doctor has to say about the pros and cons about the particular diet that you are thinking about starting. This could help you in making adjustments to it to make it healthier for you.
You doctor will have a good sense of your medical history, and the medical history of your family. So he or she will know whether your body can cope with such extremes. You can also ask about side affects from liquid diets for weight loss consisting of lack of energy or dry skin. Your doctor will also explain to you the type of exercise your body will need to prevent atrophy from your muscles.
You may have thought that you wouldn’t have to exercise on these kind of liquid diets for weight loss. But the truth is that you will have to come off this extreme diet after a couple weeks or so, and you don’t want the weight to pile back on like is usually does after you finish a diet program. By maintaining your exercise regime once you return to solid foods you will keep the weight off.
There is no sense in going through a liquid diet weight loss program if you are not going to keep the weight off.
