If you turned on your TV or flipped a magazine and discovered the Acai berry, you probably asked yourself what it is. There are now numerous institutions that involved themselves in uncovering the secrets of this fruits along with the goods related to it. Those who are watching their diet may even take this since it only contains fats that are good for the body, which is known as the monounsaturated fats. It also provides fibers that work together with the digestive system and phytosterols that helps your heart perform well.

Also according to the research, the fruit and the goods related to it are a good source for anthocyanins, which belong to the flavonoids class. This pertains to the red or blue phenols that potentially contain antioxidants. They are particularly found in red wine, which are believed to play a part in the French paradox since it is said that France has the lowest number of individuals who have heart problems.
The fruits and the goods are also good resources of anthocyanins, which are generally known to be included in the flavonoids category. They are the ones responsible for the red-blue phenols that are believed to contain antioxidants. Red wine also has this property, which has been figured in France since it has the least number of heart disease patients. Take a good look around you and you will certainly have the same opinion that there are particular elements that encourage sickness such as pollution and harmful fumes. It is truly a requirement that one has all the necessary protection in order to escape the dangers of sickness and terrible ailments.
Look Out! Another Acai Berry Scam!

Not another one! I was really troubled by the news that there are more supplement scams! Greedy supplement companies are tarnishing the reputation of the beautiful acai berry in a similar manner to the wu yi tea scam.
Given economical troubles, none of us can afford to be scammed by acai berry companies or any other supplement company; however, we all need to do the best we can to be proactive about our health and avoid costly doctor appointments. The acai berry supplements are highly beneficial, so how can we avoid being scammed and still benefit from this Amazon fruit? You need to be informed!
The acai berry scam works similarly to the wu yi tea scam. A person is lured in by a free trial offer with only shipping charges to be charged to their credit card. Who does not want something for free? Of course, it is not and the person has just signed up for an auto shipment program!
Next, they receive charges on their credit card for acai berry supplements that have yet to arrive. Some of the acai berry scams are not even shipping anything, just charging for more supplements!
The biggest problem arrives when the person tries to call and cancel the auto shipments and receive a reimbursement. Often times, they are placed on hold forever only to be told that they will not receive a credit unless they send back the free acai berry trial. There is little they can do and many report that the acai berry companies continue to charge their credit card until the customer gives up and cancels their credit card.
A rule of thumb would be to avoid free trials; however, there may be some free trial companies who are honest and who really do want to prove their product to you through a free trial. So, how do you tell the difference?
Make sure you do two things: Read all the fine print and call the company to verify that you will not be receiving any future charges past the shipping charges. Make sure you get the name of the acai berry representative when you call.
If there is no phone number, or if you are put on hold for a lengthy time to get a simple answer, the company is more than likely fraudulent!
Until the scam has run its course, stick with reputable sites such as Amazon or sites that have been backed by the Better Business Bureau or another reputable consumer agency. What you do not want to do is miss out on acai berry supplements to improve your health!
Antioxidants are very important for preventing disease and acai berries are loaded with them and other highly beneficial nutrients such as essential amino acids and omega 3 fatty acids.
Your Guide To Bread Machine Mixes

Do you use bread machine mixes when you want to make yeast bread in your automated bread-making machine? If you do, why do you? Because it’s easier? It is so simple to make gourmet bread quickly from easy-to-follow bread recipes and so much more variable too. If you use bread machine mixes you are limited to the bread machine mixes there are in the shops ” no matter how many of them there are there.
On the other hand, a good bread machine recipe book is infinitely more flexible than bread machine mixes. A good bread machine cookbook might give you 150 or so recipes originating from several countries, but it will also inspire you to adapt those recipes, encouraging you to be creative and invent your own style of bread.
Bread machine mixes are really quite limiting and you have no say about what the bread machine mix contains either: preservatives, colouring, MSG, salt or Heaven knows what. OK, it tells you on the label, but you cant remove them, if you only use bread machine mixes.
Making bread is really very easy. Or to put it correctly, the ingredients to making bread are really quite simple. To make a very basic loaf of bread, you need only: flour, water, yeast, sugar, salt and fat or oil. The difficult part about making bread is the mixing. It can take four hours to mix the bread mixture together; to wait for it to rise; to knead it; wait for it to prove; knead it again and bake it.
So, if you have a bread making machine you can automate the hard bread mixing, proving, kneading cycle and if you have a bread-making recipe book you will be provided with a large number of recipes to guide and encourage you.
What could be easier? You look in the bread-making machine cookbook for an appetizing recipe; you put the everyday ingredients into the bread mixing bowl of the bread machine and you put the yeast into a time-release box on top of the bread machine; set the timer and go about your daily life or go to sleep!
The bread making machine will stir the ingredients and check the timer. My bread-making machine has a sixteen-hour timer. So, if you want your gourmet, yeast bread ready for 8:30 AM, the bread-making machine will stir the flour, water, salt oil and sugar immediately, add the yeast at say, 6 AM, knead, prove and bake the bread and ring a bell at 8:30 to announce that your gourmet food is waiting for you.
But you wont need the bell to tell you that. The smell of that fresh bread will fill your house and you will be well aware that your bread making machine is almost ready to deliver one of the best loaves of bread youve ever had in your life. And you wont ever look for bread machine mixes again. Youll be brimming over with your own bread machine mixes in no time at all and youll be giving bread away so that you can try out your very own latest bread machine mix.
Bread machine mixes ” who needs them?
Eat Consciously. Lose Weight. Get Healthy.

For the most part people in the United States eat on the run, talking, walking, while still working, preparing the meal itself, arguing, debating or worrying. In those instances even the best foods will not digest well. A lot of those habits come from childhood. The example we see set in childhood is usually what we practice unless we catch on to some better way to perform.
We know that the human body is energy, something like 99.999 formless and the rest is apparent form. When we choose food it should be chosen with that in mind; find foods that are alive with energy; eat them with consciousness and be grateful that our bodies can incorporate the energy of the foods we are eating. Thats why food ingested with a blessing or giving of thanks goes down so much better than foods gobbled down.
Although meals are usually is a social time, the time can be planned as quiet, relaxing and mutually supportive. The dinner table is not the time for interrogation or reprimand. The more relaxing the meal, the more true interest and love shown around the table, the better the digestion will be for children for their lifetime.
Foods easily ingested by one child cause allergic reactions in their sibling. This one fact alone is cause for arguments at meal time in many homes. Food preferences involve more than being a picky or a good eater, it involves blood types and what is termed in Eastern Indian Cultures dosha types. Every person is unique and varied in what they are designed to digest really well.
So how does all of this relate to losing weight and being healthy? Foods not digested take more energy to move through the system than they lend to building the body. Foods not fully digested, move through the body slowly, use up precious energy, putrefy in the stomach and small intestine, and over years, line the colon walls. Over the years allergies come on board as well as pounds. A t this point it takes concentrated and disciplined effort to change the tides, that is lose weight and feel better about self.
Can it be done? Absolutely, you can gather all your forces and go for live foods, drink pure water, and plan meals to have the body and a life to match that youve only dreamed of. But exactly how hard will it be? Will you have to starve, do without food or perhaps never have coffee or wine? Oh please, that would be awful. Lets talk balance
Youll never have to starve, maybe eat smaller and more consciously arranged meals, get a juicer and perhaps eat 75% raw or lightly cooked foods. There are thousands of sweetener choices but rather than choose white sugar or a toxic substitute you may learn to like Stevia or honey. Before you drink that first cup of coffee in the morning you can drink one or two full glasses of water with fresh organic lemon squeezed into it. You’ll look for and give yourself leverage.
Conscious food choices, gratitude, relaxing meals and pure water all lend to the health and radiant look we feel good wearing, no matter what age we are. Every choice for health and more discipline will empower you in every aspect of life. Every self-enhancing choice will also add to the environment and give a great example to the next generation. You will have the mind and body you want at all stages in your life. That’s really healthy aging.

What’s The Fascination with Liquid Diets for Weight Loss

When it comes to food and trying to cut down on food, people struggle as they feel that they have no control over how much they eat and before they know it, hunger has ruled their better judgement and they’ve scoffed an entire fast food meal without thinking.
It can be terribly frustrating knowing what to put into your bodies, how much to put into your bodies, and when to put it in your body. These are the type of people that opt for liquid diets for their weight loss control. Whilst these kind of extreme diets do have their plus points, it is very unhealthy to stick to a diet of this kind for any sustained length of time and is highly advised against by all the professionals.
One thing to look out for with liquid diets for weight loss is that you are consuming all your essential vitamins and nutrients. Any doctor or nutritionist will tell you the same so there is no doubt that this advice must be adhered to.
Health is of paramount importance and should always come before superficial aspects of life like how much you way and what you look like when you’re naked or on the beach this summer.
Being skinny but unhealthy is certainly not the goal and you should always keep that in mind.
Crushing the Liquid Diets for Weight Loss Myths
There’s no getting away from the fact that liquid diets for weight loss are extreme diets. You get fast results as your are starving your body of carbs. Such extreme deficits of carbs for any length of time, even a few weeks, can put dire strains on your body and energy levels. So you need to take a visit to your doctors to see what they have to say.
Seriously listen to what your doctor has to say about the pros and cons about the particular diet that you are thinking about starting. This could help you in making adjustments to it to make it healthier for you.
You doctor will have a good sense of your medical history, and the medical history of your family. So he or she will know whether your body can cope with such extremes. You can also ask about side affects from liquid diets for weight loss consisting of lack of energy or dry skin. Your doctor will also explain to you the type of exercise your body will need to prevent atrophy from your muscles.
You may have thought that you wouldn’t have to exercise on these kind of liquid diets for weight loss. But the truth is that you will have to come off this extreme diet after a couple weeks or so, and you don’t want the weight to pile back on like is usually does after you finish a diet program. By maintaining your exercise regime once you return to solid foods you will keep the weight off.
There is no sense in going through a liquid diet weight loss program if you are not going to keep the weight off.
Diabetes!,what to do first

Although no cure is currently available for either type 1 or type 2 diabetes the future is not quite as dismal as it seems. There are plenty of ways to manage the affects of Diabetes and a very close to normal lifestyle can be achieved.
The first steps to take when either type 1 or type 2 has been properly diagnosed is to discuss in detail with your doctor or Consultant the immediate steps you need to take to control your illness in the first instance.
Don`t forget that they are experts in their field and definitely know what they are talking about, you should pay full attention and follow their instructions fully.
Amongst other things one of the major factors will of course be your glucose levels,ie,how much glucose there is in your bloodstream and the levels of insulin to control it. Be prepared for the toil of regular blood testing which may at first seem a bit intrusive but as time goes on it will just seem like an everyday part of your life.
There are a huge variety of different apparatus for testing of the blood, indeed some of them are so good now that one would hardly notice that a sample is being taken. Not only are they very user friendly but are also extremely accurate in their findings.
Diet and Fitness will also come to the forefront following the diagnosis of Diabetes, but try not to look at this as something negative. With a well formulated diet and a good fitness regime you never know you may well end up with that body beautiful after all, see it`s not all bad is it ?.
I think the overall picture is,of course, nobody likes to find out that they have developed diabetes but it is certainly not the end of the world, far from it,if anything some of the manufacturers of the food we eat ought to pay more heed and healthy eating and a good balance should be widely promoted.
What do lap band patients eat?

People who chose to undergo lap band surgery are opting for more than a medical procedure; they are also adopting a lifestyle change. The change has two primary goals. The first is a gradual increase in exercise. Once slowly introduced, a regular exercise routine has to be observed on a daily basis. This means that a person who decides to go the lap band route will have to make a commitment to alter sedentary behaviors post surgery.
The other aspect of change that lap band patients must commit to is to follow a balanced meal plan. This new diet will also need to be incorporated into the patient’s daily routine.
Pre surgery diet A few months prior to lap band surgery, patients need to eat an extremely nutritional diet cutting meals into smaller portions to get used to the idea of eating lighter. The doctor will devise a diet program for you to follow that will be essential to the operations success. Following the diet is crucial in that it will shrink the liver which in turn will minimize blood loss and prevent muscle degeneration. This sensible meal plan usually reduces caloric intake to 800 to 1200 while cutting high fat content foods. There will most likely be a concentration on proteins rich edibles as well.
A liquid diet is then prescribed for the remaining two weeks before the operation. Other pre operative changes will include increasing exercise getting rid of cigarettes and reducing carbonated drinks.
Post surgery diet It takes roughly 4-6 weeks to stabilize and eat normally after lap band surgery. During the process, the patient will have to gradually get to the point of eating solids via a four step process. The first step directly follows surgery when patients will be given ice shavings and chips to suck on. They also won’t be able to drink fluids or caloric beverages until the next day to prevent nausea and vomiting.
A liquid diet is then observed for approximately two weeks. Many of the liquids have to be thin and clear like a broth and cannot include chunks of any kind. Dairy, sugar and extremely cold foods should also be avoided. When the doctor gives the go ahead, a patient often graduates to pureed foods that are prepared in a blender. The types of food one can pure can be discussed with your doctor. In terms of consistency, one can say the foods are akin to baby foods.
Directly following this is the introduction of foods like chicken or turkey. Portions have to be small and the patient has to thoroughly chew their meals or risk complications with their lap band due to sudden regurgitation. Vomiting can create major problems that could threaten the success of your surgery.
Should everything go as planned the doctor will allow you to start on solid foods once again but you will have to chew your food to a fine consistency before swallowing. You should also refrain from drinking anything with or after meals as the food will pass through your system too quickly for you to feel full. This will defeat the entire purpose of the lap band installation.
If you follow the basic instructions to the letter, you’ll soon be on your way to lifestyle make over that will provoke positive change and promote weight loss.
Long term diet Once you begin to eat solid foods, just remember to chew thoroughly and refrain from drinking anything with your meals. You will never be able to eat the way you once did prior to surgery, high calorie foods, sugary or carbonated drinks and even things like popcorn, asparagus and certain types of nuts will be off limits. Getting lap band surgery is not only a physical adjustment but a mental one as well, but once you begin eating healthy well balanced diets, you probably won’t even desire to partake in high caloric eating again. This makes lap band surgery rewarding on many levels.
How Do You Know if You Qualify for the Lap Band Surgery?

Although numerous individuals desire the lap band procedure to affect positive weight loss, some of them may not be a viable candidate for it. As with any elective surgery, there are huge associated risks and gastric bypass is fairly invasive operation. This is why ethical doctors will always look at a patient’s history prior to deciding to go through with this type of surgery.
Some of the more basic considerations for the lap band operation are the weight and age of the patient. A patient should be between the ages of 18-55 and over 100 pounds in weight and/or have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 35-39. For people with a BMI index that is between 35-40, it is required to establish how weight gain has affected overall health; however, individual’s with a BMI of 40 and over won’t have to have weight related health issues to receive the surgery.
Below is a list of other considerations that a bariatric physician may contemplate in an effort to see if you qualify for lap band surgery.
Medical history Medical history is extremely important as it determines your ability to undergo an invasive operation. For example, individuals with blood clotting problems or cardiovascular issues may not be able to be subjected to lap band surgery without serious complications during or after the procedure.
Those who have an illness that may have directly caused their obesity may also be ineligible for lap band surgery as well. If you are unsure as to what contributed to your weight gain, seek a full medical examination prior to your lap band consultation.
Smoker People who smoke tend to develop more post operative related issues than those who do not and can lengthen their recovery time. A smoker who truly wishes to alter their lifestyle and get on the fast track towards weight loss would have to quit smoking before their surgery.
Lifestyle If you lead a sedentary lifestyle, eat tons of junk food and lead a hectic, stress filled life your doctor could ask that you alter these things prior to lap band surgery. If this seems impossible to do, you may have to seek the assistance of a certified behavioral specialist to adopt healthier attitudes before being seriously considered for the lap band.
Diet and exercise history It is imperative to establish that the patient has tried alternative methods of weight loss with limited to no success. This is to prevent the misuse of the lap band as a cure all solution to weight gain. Those who have attempted a diet and exercise program prior to seeking the lap band procedure are also most likely to follow the lap band meal and exercise plan after surgery which is essential to the operation’s success.
Pre op tests To further ensure the success of lap band surgery, a doctor will perform a battery of diagnostic tests to establish your ongoing health and viability for surgery. Some of the test may include ultra sounds, CAT-scans, X-rays and analysis of the blood and urine. If these tests come up normal, you will be able to progress to the next levels of evaluation, namely psychological ones, to see your mental preparedness for the procedure. Once all relevant information has been collected, you can start the lengthy pre-op preparations for lap band surgery.
Is the lap band for you? If you are serious about wanting to lose weight and don’t mind making extreme lifestyle changes, contact a local certified bariatric physician nearest your for a consultation. He will be able to explain the procedure, go over the associated risks and evaluate if lap band surgery is right for you.
Wanting to look and feel your best is the first step towards a richer, more fulfilling life. With the right mindset, the lap band can help you achieve those goals
Acai Berry Tales and Truths

Are you looking for ways to improve your health through nutrition? Have you thought about looking in the Brazilian rainforest for the answer? You do not have to book a flight because a miracle fruit from this mystical region is now available to all of us in various acai berry products. You are going to love what this super fruit can do for your health!
Acai (pronounced Ah-SIGH-ee) berries have become quite popular in the past few years, but the people of the Brazilian rainforest have long revered this gorgeous purple fruit that grows on a palm tree.
Folklore tells the tale of an Amazon Indian girl named Iaca whose father was the tribal chief. The tribe had become too large and soon, there was not enough food to feed everyone. The tribal chief ordered that any child born needed to be sacrificed. His daughter was the first to give birth after this decree, but the chief showed no mercy for the sake of the whole tribe.
She mourned her child to the point of hearing the cries of a baby outside her hut. She desperately searched for what she thought was her newborn baby crying for her. Instead, she found a new palm tree growing in the midst of the Amazon rainforest. Terribly heartbroken, she lay beneath the palm tree and died.
The tribe discovered Iaca and noticed that the new tree had purple berries plentiful enough and nutritious enough to sustain the entire tribe. The tribal chief said that the newborns would now be spared death and he named the berries Acai (Iaca spelled backwards) after his daughter.
Clever story, but the truth behind acai berries is just now being realized. Scientists are finding that acai berries just might be the most potent fruit available because they contain super antioxidants, essential amino acids and omega 3 fatty acids.
The antioxidant that gives acai berries their beautiful royal purple color is called anthocyanin. Anthocyanin is a super antioxidant able to slow or stop tumor growth. All antioxidants are capable of fighting and preventing cancer because of their ability to stop the cancer-causing actions of free radicals at the cellular level. They are also important for rebuilding and repairing damaged tissue.
Because free radicals are also responsible for the aging process, acai berries are also great for preventing premature aging and slowing the biological clock.
Essential amino acids are important for tissue structure. Though only animal protein contains a complete blend of essential amino acids, it also contains dangerous saturated fat. Acai berries contain a nearly complete blend of essential amino acids making them fabulous for maintaining tissue structure (i.e. collagen in skin cells).
Speaking of fat, acai berries contain good fat called omega 3 fatty acids, which are capable of lowering bad cholesterol (LDL) and raising good cholesterol (HDL). You may have heard of omega 3 fatty acids in regard to the benefits of eating fish or taking fish oil supplements.
Acai berries are able to improve your health, prevent disease and slow the aging process. Available in a number of ways, acai products can truly benefit your overall health and restore a more youthful appearance.
Acai berry juice lines the supermarket shelves with its growing popularity, but make sure you do not fall prey to these corn syrup juices.
Weight Loss Motivation

When I got to New York, it was covered in snow. I had been fantasizing about 50 degree weather, but no such luck.
I like how the neighborhood looks when it’s covered in show — it’s really quite lovely. This appreciation for all the loveliness is usually short-lived and I tend to want to leave when the feeling fades. This time was no different, but I have no choice — I must stay.
A major problem for most dieters is motivation. Almost every dieter starts out with the best of intentions when beginning a weight loss plan, but if they run into a problem, those good intentions can fall apart very quickly and they are at a high risk for giving up and going back to the foods that got them in trouble in the first place.
I’ve found that there are a few tactics that work well for many people.
1. Altering what you see in your mind’s eye.
2. Accurately recording your measurements.
3. Keeping a journal
4. Coming to terms with the fact that no one, including yourself, is perfect.
Comfort eating is an all-too-common way for overweight people, who tend to think of themselves as losers in some aspect of their lives, to make themselves feel better. They think “As long as I eat my junk food, at least I can feel better for a little while.”
This is delusional, but it’s true, and it needs to change. You need to start looking in the mirror and imagining yourself as healthy and fit all the time. This doesn’t happen overnight, but it is easily accomplished by practice. Changing the picture pays you huge dividends in the long run.
You will be able to become the person you imagine yourself to be — if you practice.
You can use a tape measure to get numbers if you want to, but I prefer pictures. When you start on a weight loss program, take pictures of yourself. Then imagine the new you, and get started.
A diary or a journal is an excellent way to chart your progress. You can write down the info by hand or you can work on the computer. The idea is to log in everything you eat and all the exercise you are doing. At the end of the first week, take a photo. By the time you take a look at the photos from week 3 or 4, you should be seeing real results. And when you look at the photos from weeks 10 through 12, you won’t be able to keep a smile off your face — the results will be dramatic.
Slip-ups happen to everyone who is in the midst of a weight loss routine. Don’t beat yourself up about it. The best thing to do is log it into your diary and pay attention to when and how the slip-ups happen — this will show you where your weak spots are. If you feel guilty, get in an extra workout. Don’t let you slip-ups get in the way of your progress — just take note of them, get back to your routine, and stay positive.
Your body will be grateful to you.
The more you listen to your body, the more success you will have. As you increase your fitness level, your body will begin to give you signals as to what it needs. If you ignore what your body is telling you, you are very likely to get another type of signal, and it won’t be positive.
For your body to function at its highest level, you need to be doing other things than just eating healthy foods and using a good exercise routine. Enteric-coated pharmaceutical-grade fish oil is one of those things.
The daily addition of pharmaceutical-grade enteric-coated fish oil has many benefits. It optimizes your joint mobility, aids in the function of your brain and nervous system and has many cardiovascular benefits. Add it to you routine — every day.
I take pharamaceutical-grade fish oil every day and have been for a long time, but if I slip up and skip a dose or two, my body doesn’t let me forget it, especially my joints.
(Say Bill…I don’t believe we’ve gotten any fish oil for a day or two…we’re going to send you a little reminder…how about your left knee…yeh, I know it hurts…but next time don’t forget to pack it.)
I tend to forget to take the fish oil when I’m traveling, which is often, so I’ve come up with a solution — I bring along “travel only” bottles, which never leave my side.
